Antonio Urbino Penna Jr. holds a J.D. degree from the Law School of the University of São Paulo (USP) and is a specialist in Civil Procedural Law with a degree earned from the Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC). He has an extensive background and practice in civil and commercial litigation, in public-interest civil actions, and in issues involving bankruptcy and debt restructuring proceedings, consumer law areas – CDC, commercial representation, among others. Mr. Penna has gained significant experience in Commercial Arbitration, dedicating to the development of the other Alternative Dispute Resolution – ADR methods. He is the co-founder of the CBAr – Brazilian Arbitration Committee, and was its first Treasurer, and is listed as an arbitrator by major Brazilian arbitration centers. Antonio Penna is listed by the Chambers Latim America Client’s Guide of 2009, 2010, and 2011 as one of the most respected professionals in litigation practice. He has developed his litigation practice over the last 30 years, integrating and coordinating the litigation departments of two of the leading law firms in the domestic and international markets. Mr. Penna is the former São Paulo District Attorney and member of CONJUR – Superior Legal and Legislative Council of FIESP (São Paulo Industry and Commerce Federation). He has participated in a number of lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences, both as a lecturer and as a guest, and is the author of several articles and papers on the litigation and arbitration practice, such as the International Arbitration/Brazil Chapter – Winning Legal Strategies (2005), Arbitration – The Brazilian Perspective – Latin America Law and Business Report (2001), ed Commercial Leasing – A Case Study of Article Repossession –Latin America Law and Business Report (1994).
